By default MacOS ships with Python-2. But, I guess most of us have long back started to work with Python-3 and it is very irritating to run python3 every time instead of python in terminal.
If that’s the case, simply run this command instead and it will install pip. Sudo easyinstall pip. Python 2 vs Python 3. Python 2 is still on your system even though you’ve installed Python 3. In order to send commands to Python 3, you will need to enter python3 in the terminal. If you enter python, the command will be sent to Python 2.

On Mac OS X Mojave python stands for python of version 2.7 and python3 for python of version 3. The same is pip and pip3. So, to upgrade pip for python 3 do this: $ sudo pip3 install -upgrade pip.

First install Python 3.x:

Even if you have an older version of Python, e.g., Python 3.2, on your laptop, you can still install a newer version, e.g., 3.5 or 3.6

On your Windows machine download and install the latest Python 3 Releasefrom Python Release for Windows
On your Mac, you need to download and install Mac OS version of Python 3 Release from Downloads for Python for Mac OS X

Second install Matplotlib:

Note: You must install Python 3.5 or 3.6 on your laptop before you install Matplotlib!

On a Mac laptop:
After you have Python 3.5.1 installed, open a new Terminal.app (in Application/Utilities) window and type the following:
pip3 install matplotlib

I noticed the first time I ran a Python 3 program using the matplotlib, I received a warning that it was building a font cache and might take a minute.
On a Windows laptop:
After you have Python 3.5.1 installed, open a new Command Prompt Window. You can do this by typing in 'Command Prompt' in the search box that pops up when you click the Start Button (more detailed directions here).

pip3 install matplotlib
pip3 is the Python 3 version of pip. pip3 will install all the necessary libraries. Almost like magic!

This is the release candidate of the first maintenance release of Python 3.9

Python 3.9.1rc1 is the newest major release of the Python programming language, and it contains many new features and optimizations. We've made 240 changes since 3.9.0 which is a significant amount. To compare, 3.8.1rc1 only saw 168 commits since 3.8.0.

Installer news

3.9.1rc1 is the first version of Python to support macOS 11 Big Sur. With Xcode 11 and later it is now possible to build “Universal 2” binaries which work on Apple Silicon. We are providing such an installer as the macosx11.0 variant. This installer can be deployed back to older versions, tested down to OS X 10.9. As we are waiting for an updated version of pip, please consider the macosx11.0 installer experimental.

This is the first version of Python to default to the 64-bit installer on Windows. The installer now also actively disallows installation on Windows 7. Python 3.9 is incompatible with this unsupported version of Windows.

A number of standard library modules (audioop, ast, grp, _hashlib, pwd, _posixsubprocess, random, select, struct, termios, zlib) are now using the stable ABI defined by PEP 384.
